Damian Lillard is one of the most underrated players in the NBA right now. Without LaMarcus Aldridge, Portland Trail Blazers finished a season with a better record than Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets.
Nobody didn’t expect that Portland Trail Blazers could play in the NBA Playoffs 2016. Many analysts counted out Damian Lillard this season.
If we are talking about the best players in the NBA, Damian Lillard at least should be in the conversation. Of course, it’s tough to win the MVP because of Stephen Curry’ magical season and Warriors 73-9 records.
He finished 8th in the 2015-16 MVP award results, and that is a good motivation for him to continue with hard working and I’m sure that he will be in the Top 5 players in the next few years.
That was his 4th NBA seasons and with 25.1 points, 6.8 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game, he proved us that he can play on the highest level and against the best players in the league.
If we are talking about point guards, where is Damian Lillard?
Stephen Curry is the best point guard in the NBA, but I see only Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul ahead of him, and they all have better teammates than Damian Lillard.
He is the youngest player on that list, and I really would like to see him in the roster with 2 All-Star players, because he would have a better space and his not a same player like he used to be. He improved himself and he recognizes a game better than before. Just to mention, he is only 25 years old.
Damian Lillard is a mix of Stephen Curry and Russell Westbrook type of players. He is a good shooter and he is the explosive point guard who can posterize centers or power forwards almost in every game.
With CJ McCollum, Portland Trail Blazers needs All-Star player with skills to finish around the rim and to shot from the perimeter after pick n pop with Damian or CJ. After LaMarcus Aldridge signed with San Antonio Spurs, Portland doesn’t have a good big man with points in his hands.
We’ll see what is the next move for the Trail Blazers, but they have very young backcourts and only Golden State Warriors have the better one with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
The Western Conference is a very strong and that could be a problem for Damian Lillard. If Kevin Durant stays in Oklahoma City Thunder, they will have the best roster after Golden State Warriors.
Also, the Clippers have a great team with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, and this is a very tough situation for D. Lillard and Portland Trail Blazers.
The good news for Damian is that Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook said Friday he would not compete on the USA Basketball team at this summer’s Olympics, opening a spot for Portland Trail Blazers point guard.
With Westbrook, Curry, Paul and Wall no longer in the mix, the point guard options are down to Memphis’ Mike Conley, Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving and Lillard available to fill three roster spots.
Lillard briefly ended his relationship with USA Basketball earlier this year after participating in team camps in 2013 and 2014. But Lillard rejoined the program and was added to the player pool of Team USA roster hopefuls.
He will finally play for the USA and with that experience, we can expect even better next season for him and Portland Trail Blazers.
