Not even two hours after the All-Star game, shocking trade news finally hits the NBA. Basketball superstar DeMarcus Cousins has been traded to the New Orleans Pelicans! The deal involves Boogie to the Pels’ for Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, and multiple draft picks. The news comes just hours after reports said the the Kings were becoming “very active” in DeMarcus Cousins talks.

Both former players for Kentucky, Davis and Cousins have been united in the biggest blockbuster trade of the year.

For the Pelicans, they become instantly good. A front court of AD and Boogie will be the best in the league, and will help to attract future free agents for years to come. While they did have to sacrifice their future picks, it’s obviously a gamble worth taking for one of the best centers in the league.

For the Kings, the plan is simple: start over. They needed a new era, and they didn’t see Cousins in it. While some draft picks, Hield, and Tyreke don’t seem like a whole lot, it will help the Kings wipe their slate clean. It also gives them an opportunity to build through the draft, and acquire younger pieces to build around the future.

The trade signals a very, very important thing: The Pelicans aren’t messing around. With their scary new lineup, they are showing the rest of the league that they are ready to win big.
