Kristaps Porzingis won’t be enough to bring the Knicks back to relevance.

If their other young guys fail to develop into stars, the Knickerbockers could find themselves struggling to get over the hump for many more years to come.

Good news is, the team’s front office seems to realize this fact and is preparing for a summer of golden opportunity. Among the many stars available, they’ve put one big-time name above the others.

(per Sherrod Blakey of NBC Sports Boston the Bulls Talk podcast):

I can tell you right now, the New York Knicks, he is their No. 1 target. I’ve spoken with people within that organization. They have made it absolutely crystal clear to me that, if they had their pick of guys that are going to be in the free agent market this summer, Kyrie would be their first, second, third and fourth choice.

Securing Uncle Drew is obviously easier said than done, but if anybody’s got a chance at luring him away from Boston, it’s got to be New York.

Regardless of what happens, though, it will be interesting to see what transpires as the Kyrie Irving sweepstakes roll into the 2018/19 season.
