After a terrible few weeks for the point guard position in San Antonio, losing longtime Spur Tony Parker to the Hornets in free agency, as well as losing guards Lonnie Walker IV, Dejounte Murray and Derrick White all to injury all before the start of the regular season.
Australian point guard Patty Mills is now technically the only healthy point guard on the roster as of now capable of starting for the Spurs, which means San Antonio is going to have to dabble in the free agent market to try and sign a few backups.
The Spurs have been rumored to be interested in signing point guards Mario Chalmers, Brandon Jennings, Brandon Paul Jameer Nelson, and Ty Lawson to fill their point guard hole for the time being, and at least with Lawson, there’s mutual interest.
Lawson commented on an Instagram post detailing the rumors, stating he’d be “ready when they are”.
Ty Lawson’s last appearance in the regular season was with Sacramento Kings back in the 2016-17 NBA season, where he played in 69 games, starting 24 of them for the Kings, and averaged 9.9 points and 4.8 assists a game.
Last year, he played for the Wizards in the NBA Playoffs, in only 5 games, and he averaged 5.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
