As a 7 foot big man without any major publicity, Nikola Jokic isn’t exactly the most exciting star in the NBA.

Yet, as the centerpiece for the Denver Nuggets, he’s everything they’d hoped he’d be.

Last season, we saw Jokic average 18.5 points with 10.7 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game on 49% shooting. It was a breakout season for a guy that has become one of the league’s top performers.

A lot of questions with guys like Jokic though, is whether or not they can keep their game at an elite level. A fair question, too, considering how many others have fell flat after an impressive year.

The Joker should be alright.

To open this year, he’s silenced a lot of the doubts. Namely, it’s what he did this past Saturday that has everyone reeling. It’s what we call a “perfect triple-double.”

He dropped 35 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, 4 steals, and a block against the Suns without missing a shot from the field or turning the ball over… all in just 31 minutes of play. Obviously, something like that is ridiculously hard (and rare) to get.

This season, the Nuggets are hoping for more than just impressive individual stats. Although the West is absolutely packed, Denver is looking to compete with all the rest of them.

Of course, it will be up to Jokic to get them there. And if he keeps this pace up, that might not be a problem.
