The 3 Best Options For Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony has been one of the best scorer’s of this generation and is a more than for sure Hall Of Famer. While Melo is respected amongst the league, the last 2 to 3 years left of his career has been anything but good, and he has declined as a player faster than any of us could have thought. In 3 quick years, he went from being a franchise player to someone who isn’t even deemed worthy of playing for a contender at a veteran’s minimum.

After his latest stint with the Houston Rockets, it was announced that his time with the organization is over. Now that a couple of days has passed since the announcement, we now are taking a look at what is next for Melo, and what more he has left to offer to the game of basketball.

3. Overseas

Now look, before you call me crazy, let’s really think about this. At first glance, Melo playing overseas just sounds weird. But if you really think about it, it might be a way for him to rejuvenate his career, and get his confidence back. It has helped players such as Michael Beasley, Deron Williams, Timofey Mozgov, Jimmer Fredette, and many other players as well.

While this may not be the most realistic option for Melo, it is still something he may want to consider.

2. Stay in NBA

This is what most people are expecting him to do. This more likely than not is Melo’s top choice as well.

Now that Melo is waiting to get officially released, teams could start looking at getting him at a veterans minimum and someone that could help out the young guys. Even though Melo wants to stay in the league, the problem is who wants him.

There hasn’t seemed to be much demand for Anthony here recently, and after this last stint of poor play with Houston, it might have just put the nail in the coffin for him getting another shot with another team until he can prove that he has what it takes to be worthy of a roster spot.

The move that would have maybe made the most sense was for him to go to the Golden State Warriors, but it was recently announced that they do not have any current plans to sign the 10-time All-Star. Only time will tell whether a team will give Anthony another shot, but as for now, there does not look to be any opportunities.

1. Retire

From a personal note, this is what I feel he should do. Melo has already proven he’s a hall of famer. He’s a 10-time All-star, has a scoring title, and has made the All-NBA team 6 times. After you think about it, is there much reason for Melo to come back? A lot of people feel like he’s simply just hurting his own legacy at this point, and there are a number of people that have said he should retire.

He is now a below average shooter (and he’s had the biggest open shot % in his career in his year with OKC), a terrible defender, and doesn’t really have much more to offer unless he can somehow find a way to get his shooting to where it used to be.

If you’re a team, do you really want a player like that? And, if you’re Melo, you must ask yourself how you want people to remember your career. Do you want to be known as one of this generation’s best scorers and a certified HOFer, or do you want to be remembered as a player who didn’t retire until it was too late.

He might want to think about what he has left, before it’s too late and his legacy is ruined.
