Trevor Ariza has been stealing most of the headlines lately, as the two-way stud has been reportedly heavily pursuit by teams interested in trading for him as soon as he’s eligible on December 15th.
Ariza has been starting for the struggling Phoenix Suns and has no desire to be a part of a rebuilding team, as the squad offered him a chance to contend but have failed to live up to that promise so far.
Given his Championship experience, his defensive expertise and ability to connect as a catch and shoot three-point threat, the wing has drawn a lot of interest from several teams. Today, we’re going to let you know about the top 5 best trade destinations for him.
5. Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets are really regretting their decision to pay Chris Paul over 40 million dollars per year while letting Trevor Ariza walk away for free, and would love to have the chance to right their wrong.
Ariza already knows how to thrive in Mike D’Antoni’s system and they truly miss his defensive grit. In order to get him, they could send a 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick, and Michael Carter-Williams to the Suns, and they would also have to find a way to match his salary.
4. Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder has been great to start the year, even despite the fact that they’re still lacking Andre Roberson to lead their defense. Obviously, adding a top-tier stopper of the likes of Ariza could really come handy.
Ariza could play at the 3 with Paul George shifting back to his natural shooting guard position, while they could ease Roberson back in the rotation when he’s fully healthy. To get him, they’d have to trade away Alex Abrines, Patrick Patterson and a 2nd rounder.
3. Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers struck out on Kyle Korver but could have a huge boost off the bench with a three-point shooter like Ariza that could also be out there instead of JJ Redick when they’re in need of a stop.
Philadelphia lacks depth at the forward spot and Wilson Chandler is very injury prone so he can’t be trusted full time. In order to get him, they’d have to trade away Justin Patton, Mike Muscala and a 2nd round pick.
2. Portland Trail Blazers
The Portland Trail Blazers have been quite good to start the year but they still look like a team that needs a veteran presence to finally take a step forward in the playoffs, and Ariza could be an instant fit there.
Ariza could provide a huge defensive boost and help as a three-point specialist, and the Blazers could get him for Meyers Leonard, Anfernee Simons, and a 2nd round pick, as Simons has a lot of upsides but is not going to get many minutes in the Blazers crowded backcourt, but could grow to be a great 1-2 punch with Devin Booker.
1. Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers have reportedly been one of the most active teams in trade talks for Ariza, as they would love to bring back one of the guys that helped them win their very last NBA Championship.
In regards to Trevor Ariza going to the Lakers: I’ve had a handful of NBA executives tell me that they’ve heard that it’s going to happen, that it’s done.
In order to get him, the Lakers could send the Suns a 2nd round pick and Kentavious-Caldwell Pope, even though rumors state that they have no interest in the latter. Naturally, they’re unwilling to part ways with any of their young studs.
