The latest NBA 2k rating update has just been released where 2K either add or subtract on players’ ratings to reflect their view of what the player has done this season. These sort of things always cause controversy because everyone has a different view of how players should be rated.

Naturally, when I saw the ratings update I agreed with some and disagreed with others and I’m going to go through the top 10 players affected.

Kawhi Leonard: 95 (+1)

This is good, Kawhi has been the best player on the best team this year and there’s no doubt he’s a top 5 player right now. His defense has been as good as always and he’s more assertive on offense.

Kyrie Irving: 92 (+1)

Disagree with this one. The Celtics should be neck and neck with the Raptors but have massively underperformed so far. Kyrie has been scoring his career average at around 22/23 points a game and should have stayed the same rating.

Russell Westbrook: 92 (-1)

This was another bad one. OKC are doing great now thanks to their stellar defense and all-around play from Westbrook. He is on track to average a triple-double for the 3rd season in a row as he leads the league in assists and steals per game along with 20.7 points an outing.

Paul George: 90 (+1)

PG is having a great season for OKC and fully deserves this upgrade. He’s averaging a career-high 24.9 points a game with 7.8 rebounds and 2.2 steals whilst forming a defensively devastating partnership with Russell Westbrook. OKC will do some damage this postseason.

Kemba Walker: 89 (-1)

I’m sorry but the hell?! How can Kemba go down 1?! He should be upgraded. This is a terrible decision. Kemba scored over 100 points in the span of 2 games! He’s averaging a career-high 25 points a game and is single-handedly keeping the Hornets in a top 8 seed in the East. 2K needs to seriously rethink this one.

DeMar DeRozan: 89 (-1)

DeRozan has been good for the Spurs with his 23.5 points on 47.6% from the field, but San Antonio has struggled this season and might not make the Playoffs for the first time since 1997.

Klay Thompson: 88 (-1)

Although Klay is averaging a career high in point (22.4) his 3 point shooting has dramatically fallen in quality. Last year he shot 44% from 3 and had never shot below 40% in his career. This season he’s only hitting 35%. I think it’s because he’s a free agent and wants to show everyone he’s more than just an outside shooter.

Andre Drummond: 88 (-1)

Disagree with this one. This Pistons have been solid this season and yet again Drummond is leading the league in rebounds per game with 15.5 with nearly 6 offensive boards a night. He’s also averaging a career-high 18 points as well.

Chris Paul:86 (-1)

Man, I bet the Houston Rockets are annoyed they have Chris Paul such a big contract now. CP3 is definitely declining as shown by his career low in FG% and PPG. He’s owed nearly $160 million over the next 4 years and he’s only going to get worse in that time span.

Julius Randle: 86 (+2)

This is fully deserved. Randle has been the 2nd best player for the New Orleans Pelicans and has averaged 19.3 points and 9.5 rebounds from the bench. Thank God he fully recovered from his nasty leg injury in his first ever NBA game. If/when Anthony Davis leaves New Orleans they can look to Randle as his replacement.
