Even though most insiders thought Ajax’s wonderkid Frenkie De Jong was ready to complete a move to join French Champions Paris Saint-Germain, it looks like FC Barcelona has made a power-move over the last couple of hours.
The Catalans offered as much as 86 million plus 4 in incentives, as per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, which was enough to lure the 21-year-old to Camp Nou.
According to reports, Blaugrana officials have already traveled to the Netherlands to put an end to the drama and sign the next Dutch sensation right away, with Manchester City also keen to make a last-second run at the playmaker.
The Holland international has been wanted by almost all of Europe’s top clubs and the big-money trio emerged as the leading contenders for his signature.
But the 21-year-old has decided to become Barcelona’s third January signing, alongside Jason Murillo and Kevin-Prince Boateng.
He is set to travel to Spain to formally complete the deal, which could be worth up to £80million, on Wednesday.
The midfielder has starred for Ajax this season with 4 scores and 1 assist, and his ability to lead at either spot on the center of the field give Barcelona one of the most versatile and dynamic young men in Europe.
Also, the 21-year-old has already drawn comparisons with a former Dutch and Barcelona legend, Johan Cruyff himself.
