Fadeaway World

The Los Angeles Lakers are on the verge of playoff contention, but they’ve been stung by the injury bug and aren’t likely to make it unless they trade for some guys that could help them right away.

With Lonzo Ball sidelined for 4 to 6 weeks with an ankle injury, the team’s lack of depth at the point guard spot has been a major concern, and it has raised a lot of questions over the way the roster was actually built.

Moreover, with them trying to move some of their players prior to the deadline while also clearing the way to sign Carmelo Anthony, let’s take a look at 5 potential trades they could do to land a backup point guard.

5. Jerryd Bayless

The Wolves have a lot of depth at the point guard spot with Derrick Rose, Tyus Jones, and Jeff Teague, so Jerryd Bayless is not likely to be ever needed. Nonetheless, they’re quite shorthanded when it comes to wings.

With Covington sidelined with an injury, the Lakers could try and get Bayless in return for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who is not needed at the Staples but is a solid defender and great shooter.

4. Trey Burke

Trey Burke was showing glimpses of a comeback last season but Emmanuel Mudiay’s surge under coach Fizdale has made him lose a lot of minutes. He’s a walking bucket and above the average playmaker and could give the Lakers a much needed three-point shooter.

Also, landing Burke may be great for the Lakers as they could send Moritz Wagner and Michael Beasley in return, clearing a roster spot to let them sign Carmelo Anthony to join his longtime friend LeBron James.

3. DJ Augustin

DJ Augustin is a great scorer and a proven guy as a substitute playmaker. He’s a streaky shooter that could enhance the team’s second unit once Lonzo and Rondo are back at full strength.

Also, the Lakers could bring Terrence Ross on board to help them fix their three-point-shooting woes. In order to get them, they’d have to trade away Michael Beasley, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Moritz Wagner.

2. Yogi Ferrell

The Sacramento Kings need to make a move prior to the deadline, as they’re still 11 million short on cap space, so moving Yogi Ferrell for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope would be a match made in heaven for them.

Ferrell’s career looked ready to take off but he’s never going to thrive at Sac-Town with De’Aaron Fox playing the way he’s played all season, so it’s a win-win situation for all parties involved.

1. Jeremy Lin

Jeremy Lin’s not going to make many appearances after the All-Star break should he stay put with the Atlanta Hawks, so even if he’s not traded before the deadline, he’s a prime buyout candidate.

The Hawks should make the most of him while they still can, trading him for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s expiring deal and Moritz Wagner, a young prospect to keep their rebuilding process running and gunning.
