Fadeaway World

The Los Angeles Lakers have been quite active in the market lately, but they couldn’t pull off the move they craved the most: trading for Anthony Davis amid his trade request to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Even so, the team tried to make some moves in order to get some players off their roster and clear a spot, which means they’re bound to be quite aggressive in the buyout market in the upcoming weeks.

Let’s not forget about the fact that the Lakers are currently sitting at the 10th spot in the Western Conference, way outside of the playoff picture. And, with the Clippers holding on tightly to the 8th spot and the Kings bound to make a huge push, things aren’t going to be easy for Luke Walton’s team now on.

Having said that, let’s take a look at the top 4 potential buyout candidates the Lakers could pursue to try and make the playoffs.

4. Markieff Morris

Markieff Morris is most likely going to be bought out by the New Orleans Pelicans, while he’s still nursing an injury and will try to get a second opinion in order to make a comeback as soon as possible.

The Lakers need a tough wing like  Morris, who could provide an interior presence and even hit an occassional three-pointer. He’s a great defender and could contribute right away.

3. Ben McLemore

Ben McLemore is definitely going to be waived by the Sacramento Kings, and the former lottery pick is bound to try and take his career back from the ground before calling it quits and trying his luck overseas.

The Lakers are short on shooting right now, and McLemore may have his last shot at an NBA career with the Lakers. Also, it would be a great way to go stick it to the Kings by joining their longtime rivals.

2. Greg Monroe

Greg Monroe’s career has taken a major downfall as of late, but even so, he still has the offensive skill set to make an impact for a contender, even if it’s coming off the bench in limited minutes.

Monroe’s not likely to see much playing time with Marc Gasol heading up north to play for the Raptors, and with him already struggling to establish himself with the team, he’s a prime buyout candidate.

1. Carmelo Anthony

According to reports, Carmelo Anthony and the Los Angeles Lakers share a mutual interest, but the team was reluctant to open up a roster spot for him unless it happened via trade. Now that it has finally happened, it’s just a matter of time before we see Melo dressing in purple and gold.

Anthony still has a lot left in the tank and can be a nice scoring punch off the bench for the Lakers, but he needs to embrace a lesser role and at least start trying in the defensive end of the floor.
