The status of 34-year-old Carmelo Anthony has been up in the air since being basically shunned by the Rockets earlier this season. With rumors indicating he might end up in Los Angeles, the world has been anxiously waiting for his basketball return.
Though, in a quote by Anthony himself, a basketball exit is knocking on his door instead.
“I’d be sitting lying to you if I said it’s not coming soon. I think I want it to come soon. I don’t think I want to do this forever, but because you love it so much, it’s hard to give it up. At the end of the day, at anything you do, when it’s your time to go, it’s your time to go. But as long as you feel good with that.”
So far, Melo has yet to be picked up by an NBA team, even with the deadline passed. With the former All-Star struggling to shoot and refusing to play within his role, his value as a player has dropped significantly since last year’s stint with OKC.
We’ll see soon enough if Anthony can work his way onto an NBA roster. There’s no telling at this point, especially as the playoffs inch closer.
But, at the very least, we can confidently say that his time is running out… whether the basketball legend likes it or not.
