Real Madrid just can’t catch a break and their empty-handed season has turned even worse with the latest news regarding Vinicius Jr.
The wonderkid had excelled for Santiago Solari’s side as of late and was the lone bright spot for a Real Madrid team that looked lost and unmotivated after back-to-back losses with FC Barcelona.
Vinicius was trying to carry the load up front for a Madrid squad that was already down two goals at home against Ajax in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League’s round of 16.
The 18-year-old Brazilian had to be helped off the pitch in obvious discomfort, and, judging by the look on his eyes, he was in serious pain and disbelief due to injury.
Now, Los Blancos have confirmed what we all feared, the winger has ligament damage and there’s no timetable for his return.
“After the tests made today to our player Vinicius by the medical team of Real Madrid, he has been diagnosed with a torn ligament in his right calf. Further evaluation pending,” Real Madrid said.
Vinicius had earned his first call up for Brazil’s first team and had established himself as one of Santiago Solari’s go-to-guys even amid all of the criticism and controversy that has surrounded Santiago Bernabeu as of late.
The youngster is still a bit rough but has shown glimpses of greatness for Los Blancos, and he was clearly missed up front in his team’s heartbreaking defeat against the Dutch.
Now, Santiago Solari’s job is also under serious threat as the Argentinean has seen how the team was knocked out of 2 of the 3 competitions they played this season, while they’re trailing Barcelona by 12 points in La Liga as well.
