LeBron James’ streak of consecutive Finals appearances will likely end at eight, with the Lakers pretty much out of playoff contention. Bearing this in mind, the Lakers have shifted their focus on the draft seeking to quietly increase their odds at a top pick, even if it comes at the price of winning.
They’re even willing to go so far as “rest” LeBron James.
LeBron James has been given a minutes restriction, and will likely not play in back-to-backs, via @ChrisBHaynes.
Now that the playoffs is out of reach, the Lakers are looking to better their upcoming draft pick. Smart move.

With James seeing restricted time on the court, it sounds as if the team has waved the white flag on the season. It’s probably better that way too. With less than a 1% chance they’ll make the playoffs, there’s no point in trying to win games at this point.
Sitting LeBron gets him much needed rest, and increases the teams’ chances of landing a high lottery pick in the upcoming draft. It’s a win-win for the Lakers, even if they have to swallow some of their pride to get it done.
