The Lakers gave up everything in their pursuit of Anthony Davis this trade deadline. In trade talks, the team was apparently willing to offer just about everyone for the 6x All-Star. They obviously failed to secure him then, and talks are expected to pick up again in the summer.
But should they even bother? According to a report by Marc Spears, they might be better of going another direction. He essentially reveals that there’s zero chance the Pelicans strike a deal with L.A.
‘I’ve been told there’s no way Anthony Davis’ will be traded to Lakers.’
With as many free-agents this summer will bring, it might be time for the Lakers to give up on Davis, especially if they have to give up the farm to get him. It seems that (aside from personal hatred for the Lakers), New Orleans is intent on striking a deal with Boston.
We saw this type of thing happen with Kawhi Leonard, and now he is unlikely to come to the Purple and Gold this summer either.
It’ll be interesting to see who the Lakers chase instead. Will they continue to try their luck in the A.D. sweepstakes, or will they try their hand at the many available stars on the free-agent market?
