A new survey that was conducted by The Athletic recently polled 47 current NBA players to find out who are the most overrated players in the league. As expected, the results came back with two of the most controversial yet talented players being tied at first. The two players were former MVP Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunder and three-time champion Draymond Green from the Golden State Warriors.
The two were tied at first by a clear margin of 17%, the next closest players were Jimmy Butler of the 76ers and Timberwolves duo, Wiggins and Towns.
1. Draymond Green, Russell Westbrook (17%)
2. Jimmy Butler, Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns (6.3%)
3. James Harden, Ben Simmons, LeBron James, Kyle Lowry (4.2%)
4. Semi Ojeleye, Kyrie Irving, Brook Lopez, Myles Turner, Luka Doncic, Hassan Whiteside, John Collins, Lonzo Ball, C.J. McCollum, Nikola Jokic, DeMarcus Cousins, Paul Millsap, Klay Thompson, Jayson Tatum (2.1%)
Both Green and Westbrook are very talented players who have achieved a great deal in their respective careers so far, however they have both had somewhat of a disappointing 2019 season for their standards.
Westbrook’s efficiency has taken a slide this season, shooting a poor percentage of 42.5% on 20.3 attempts per game while shooting a very low 28.6% from deep after he claimed that he would limit the amount of 3 point attempts. The Thunder’s star guard has also had a disappointing season from the free-throw line, dropping from a career high of 84.5% to 65.7%.
Draymond Green has managed a similar drop in his game, shooting only 28.5% from deep along with averaging just over 7 in all three categories of points, assists and rebounds.
Both players will get the chance to redeem themselves when the postseason begins this month.
