If someone knows what Manchester United are capable of, that’s definitely Gerard Pique, who spent the first quite some time at Old Trafford before leaving the team in order to find more playing time several years ago.
That’s why the 32-year-old center-back knows Barcelona can’t be so calmed after their 1-0 triumph at Old Trafford, as the Red Devils are more than capable of turning the result around in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League’s quarter-finals.
The Catalan warned his teammates that Luke Shaw’s own-goal meant pretty much nothing and that they still have a lot of work to do if they want to make it to the next stage.
Gerard Piqué has stressed that his former side Manchester United have what it takes to “turn this around”, following Barcelona’s 1-0 victory in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
“After Paris Saint-Germain won here by a larger margin you can’t trust the result. Look at what happened to them. They (United)are a great club and they can turn this around, but our fans will surely help us,” Pique told Spanish outlet Marca after the match.
Pique has always had nothing but praise for Manchester United despite the little chances he got to prove his worth at England, and he was clearly moved by the chance to make an Old Trafford return, even if it was as a visitor.
“It was special for me to come here. We are enjoying our best spell defensively and personally, I feel very comfortable with my age and experience. It’s a very difficult place to win. It’s majestic and the crowd pushes a lot,” he concluded.
Pique will have the tough task to try and contain Romelu Luku when both teams face each other again, with Barcelona being one of the favorites to win the UCL this season.
