Extension talks had stalled since the start of the year when the Italian side demoted him from his role as team captain and he decided not to show up and bailed on them over a UEL Clash and then missing 10 games with a so-called knee injury before making his return to action.
Despite Inter’s desire to extend his contract, the Argentinean would favor a move out of Italy amid interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona, choosing Zinedine Zidane’s team over the Catalans, according to reports from Spanish outlet AS.
The Nerazzurri wanted to increase his release clause all the way to the €220m mark, but Icardi dreams of making a move to Santiago Bernabeu and he knows that would just only make it more difficult for him to finally get the hell out of Italy.
That’s why AS claim Icardi and Wanda Narda – his wife and agent – are planning to reject any bid from Internazionale, in order to force the team to get rid of him before his contract eventually runs out in 2021. That way, he’d be up for grabs for around €60m, a huge bargain considering today’s market.
Nonetheless, while Real Madrid have plans of going through a major roster overhaul this season, there’s no sign whatsoever of Florentino Perez or Zinedine Zidane planning to make a bid for the Argentinean, even though he was one of their targets earlier in the year.
Even despite the lack of playing time, Icardi has still scored 16 goals this season and is one of the deadliest finishers in the world, but his wife, his attitude and his constant antics made him quite a risky bet, especially considering how rash Spanish media is.
