The New Orleans Pelicans officially introduced David Griffin as their president of basketball operations on Wednesday, marking a new era for their franchise.
But the implications of Griffin’s hire are becoming much more important than the hire itself. As the former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager takes over one of the NBA’s hottest storylines (what will happen to superstar Anthony Davis), he made known to the world that he believes there is a chance Davis might not go anywhere.
Per Will Guillory of The Athletic, Griffin has not yet spoken with Davis but has a good relationship with Klutch Sports as a plan after speaking with Davis’ agent, Rich Paul.
Griffin says he believes AD is open to staying after discussions with Rich Paul. But he would prefer to establish if Davis is all-in or all-out on being with the Pelicans

For this to even be a possibility is a very strong turnaround for the Pelicans. Just months ago, A.D. seemed adamant about his trade request, and the franchise seemed ready to boot him out of the door.
Now, it seems bringing in Griffin has instilled a new sense of confidence that they can keep Davis around.
David Griffin: “Rich Paul and I were part of succeeding. They will understand when I say this, ‘You are either all the way or all the way out.'”
Griff going strong here. He believes Anthony Davis will want to stay.

As the postseason rages on, the Davis sweepstakes will continue to haunt the league. In what we thought was a two-horse race, the Pelicans may be in contention to re-sign their beloved star after all.
We will just have to wait and see.
