It’s not a secret that one of the most fraught series in the first round of the NBA playoffs is the one involving the Portland Trail Blazers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. During the first three games of the series, neither team stopped trash talking and testing the other, with OKC making some big statements in the third game, saying they’re not dead yet.
After a poor performance in game 2, where he said his performance was “unacceptable”, Russell Wilson stood up and put the Thunder on his shoulder on Friday to earn a very important win.
Russ contributed with 33 points and 11 assists as the Thunder won 120-108 and obtained the first victory of the series. Westbrook’s teammate, Paul George, didn’t miss the chance to praise him and called him “a man of his word” after leading OKC to win a game full of emotions and tensions.
Despite Damian Lillard had a very good third quarter during Friday night’s game, he was stopped in the fourth and Oklahoma and Westbrook made the magic happen.
“He’s a man of his word,” George said of Westbrook. “He came out, he led, we got behind him and he put us on his back.”
One of the reasons this series is one of the most interested in this playoff is the trash talking going on between point guards Westbrook and Lillard, which has taken things to another level. In fact, at the end of game 3, it was Paul George who stole the spotlight by making a dunk that enchanted every OKC fan in the arena.
“It’s the playoffs,” Lillard said, “people do things that maybe they’re trying to get under somebody’s skin, or maybe trying to make a statement.
“It doesn’t matter. The game was over; the game was decided. Typically, people say you don’t do stuff like that, but honestly I really couldn’t care less.
“The game had been decided, and if that’s something they needed to do to make themselves feel more dominant or feel better, then so be it.”
Every basketball fan is happy for this series; it showcases two of the best point guards in the NBA right now, two players eager to succeed in the postseason and to show they are the best at their position at this moment. We are a couple of hours ago to see the fourth game of the series, hoping to see good things from both Westbrook and Lillard.
