Fadeaway World

The New York Knicks haven’t been relevant for years. They haven’t made it to the playoffs, they’ve struck out in the Draft (except with Kristaps Porzingis), and they’ve just been incredibly mediocre.

However, this franchise can be back to its former glory days in the blink of an eye, as they have enough money to put together an outstanding free agency and put the icing on top of the cake by landing Zion Williamson in this year’s NBA Draft.

But, how could they put together a strong team? Who should they pursue this summer with so many talented players up for grabs? Let’s take a look at the top 3 realistic and unrealistic targets for the Knicks:

Unrealistic Targets

3. Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson is one of the best two-way players in the league. He can shoot lights out and lock down the best scorers on the other end of the floor on any given night, so he’ll be on every team’s agenda.

However, Thompson is expected to resign with the Golden State Warriors this summer, or could even make a move to the Los Angeles Lakers, but leaving California is not likely for him at this point of his career.

2. Jimmy Butler

Jimmy Butler is unlikely to resign with the Philadelphia 76ers regardless of what happens in the playoffs, as he failed to build any kind of rapport with Brett Brown and the rest of his teammates so far.

Even so, with the Knicks focused on bigger stars, the Brooklyn Nets, and Los Angeles Clippers look like the most likely destinations for the controversial guard/forward, who’s poised to win his first NBA Championship.

1. Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi Leonard’s future is still up in the air. The Toronto Raptors are extremely confident on their chances to get him to further extend his stay at Canada beyond this season, regardless of what happens in the playoffs.

Even so, Kawhi is fully expected to move to the West Coast following the playoffs. He just wants to be in Los Angeles, and even bought a huge mansion in Southern California, so he’s a lock to sign with the Clippers.

Realistic Targets

3. Kemba Walker

If they can’t sign Kyrie Irving, the New York Knicks are going to go all-in for Kemba Walker to make him their point guard for the future, even despite his desire to stay with the sluggish Charlotte Hornets.

The Knicks have desperately craved a point guard for years and it’s been clear that Emmanuel Mudiay and Frank Ntilikina aren’t the answer to their prayers. Kemba can shoot lights out and is an underrated playmaker as well.

2. Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving is one of the New York Knicks’ primary targets for this upcoming summer, and it looks like they’re currently the frontrunners to sign him amid his desire to play next to Kevin Durant.

Irving is not likely to resign with the Boston Celtics in the summer, and you never know what he’s up to, but he’s been rumored to be quite interested in joining the Knicks or Lakers next year.

1. Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant has one and a half foot out of the Golden State Warriors locker room right now, and even if they wind up winning a three-peat, he’s not likely to bury the hatchet and stay at the Bay.

The Durant-to-New-York rumors have been around for quite some time now and most people around the league think of it as a done deal already. He knows the best shot at becoming a legend is bringing a Championship back to the Madison Square Garden, and he’s determined to do so.
