The Golden State Warriors are one of the hottest topics to discuss at this moment in the NBA world, as the Dub Nation is not only on the quest to win their third consecutive NBA championship but to maintain the spinal dorse of the team and continue with their years of domination in the association.

Nevertheless, this sounds more unlikely as the days come by given the fact that the Warriors seem to be set to lose one of their superstars. It is still unknown who will be that one, but now the odds are between one of the Splash Brothers, Klay Thompson, and the 2014 NBA MVP Kevin Durant.

These two players have been great ever since he made their entrance in the league and now that they play together, things haven’t been better for their team. However, the departure of one of these two is imminent and we only have to wait who will be. For now, people look to already have a favorite to stay with the Californians.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said on Monday’s First Take that “some of the elite in the game” have told the Warriors to select Klay Thompson over Kevin Durant in free agency:

“We all know that KD is All-World, but Golden State is not really prioritizing him: A, because KD’s his own man, he’s going to make whatever decision he’s going to make. And they believe whether he elects to stay or go, what else can they do for him? They’ve got a first-class organization. They’re moving into a state-of-the-art new facility.

They know that he commands the max, so they’d give it to him, etc. He’s going to make the decision. But I also have been told that they have been advised, strongly I might add, by some of the elite in the game, Hall of Famers as executives and players: Prioritize Klay Thompson. In other words, offer Klay Thompson every penny that you can. If you short-change him in any way in free agency, he will consider departing. Probably for the Clippers more so than anybody else.

We need to keep our eyes on that, even though I’m told by Golden State there’s no way in hell they’re going to do that. They’re going to keep the Splash Brothers together.”

Real or not, that is a solid point. Durant seems reluctant to stay with the Warriors no matter how hard they try to keep him aboard while Klay is one of the most beloved players in the history of the franchise and losing him would be a lot more painful than losing KD. Besides, as we reported before, Thompson would be thinking on Clippers if the Warriors didn’t offer him the max.

So now things are up to the Warriors, they have the last word on this matter and a fake step might destroy everything they have built through this decade.
