The NBA Draft lottery is tonight, and it will have huge ramifications. Whoever lands the #1 overall pick will get the chance to draft Zion Williamson, the best young prospect since LeBron James.

The Knicks are tied for the best odds, with a 14% chance at landing that top pick. But according to Shams Charania, the Knicks have plans for that #1 overall pick that will not involve getting Zion.

I’m told that if the Knicks get the #1 overall pick they will shift their focus to a potential deal for Anthony Davis. Zion Williamson and potentially Kevin Knox, their prized rookie who had a stellar rookie campaign and really started to develop over the course of the season, they could pair both of those guys in a trade for Anthony Davis. There might not be a better deal out there than the Knicks if they were able to get the #1 overall pick.

That would arm them in free agency with Anthony Davis for all of these star players like Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant [who] most of them want to play with other stars…Anthony Davis would give them a guy who can try to sway Kevin Durant to join [the] franchise. There’s a lot of potential for the Knicks in the lottery tonight.

The Knicks are set on acquiring stars in free-agency and appear to be choosing established veterans over young prospects in the draft. If given the top pick, they will use it to trade for Anthony Davis, essentially pairing Zion with key players of their own young core.

Davis would become a very strong lure for other free agents, and would obviously help convince Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to sign.

For a team that was so accustomed to losing, their trajectory is about to change.
