Everybody’s talking about Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard and DeMarcus Cousins, but what about all of the other top-tier free agents that are most likely going to change teams in the summer?
Jimmy Butler is the prime example of that. He’s a guy that’s going to make any team instantly better, a true competitor and one of the best wing stoppers in the league, so he’s bound to make a lot of money.
Moreover, a lot of teams are going to try and make a run at him, especially those who’re not in Durant’s or Leonard’s list. So, let’s take a look at the top 5 best destinations for him to sign in the summer.
5. New York Knicks
We just know the New York Knicks aren’t going to go empty-handed in the summer, as they’re the frontrunners to land both Durant and Irving. But we all know how that’s gone before, so they need to have a plan B.
If they strike out on those superstars, they’ll still have plenty o cap space to try and sign a guy that can take them to the next level, and that’s where Jimmy Buckets comes into place. He’d take a huge step towards stardom.
4. Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are also in a prime position to land a top-tier free agent, but truth to be told, the team’s recent events may be more than enough to scare a couple of superstars away in the summer.
Jimmy Butler is going to be one of their top targets in free agency, and they’d definitely be a much better team with his top-notch backcourt defense in town. He’d have to share the spotlight with the King, though.
3. Philadelphia 76ers
There were times when everybody thought Butler was going to be a huge problem for Brett Brown, but it actually seems like this team built a strong group and Butler’s relationship with Embiid and Simmons was great.
The Sixers are going to do anything they can to try and run it back next season, and there’s no way in hell they’ll just let him walk away after giving up so much to trade for him in the first place.
2. Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers are going to be a huge force next season. They have cap space to sign 2 superstars, a great coach, strong foundation and a caring owner, and that’s usually a recipe for success.
Jimmy Butler may not be their first target, as they’re going all in on Kawhi Leonard. Still, he could be a major upgrade for a team that was just a 2-way player away from upsetting the Golden State Warriors.
1. Brooklyn Nets
Jimmy Butler wants a max contract and Brooklyn Nets can offer him a lucrative deal this summer. If they can resign D’Angelo Russell, they will have a pretty solid roster with Spencer Dinwiddie, Caris LeVert and Jarrett Allen.
According to Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, Jimmy Butler’s most likely landing spot this free agency will be the Brooklyn Nets. Butler had Brooklyn as one of his 3 preferred landing spots back in September and in March he openly expressed to reporters how well the Nets has played this season. The Nets have a lot going for them and many believe that hasn’t gone unnoticed to Butler.
Jimmy Butler could be a great defensive mentor for Russell and LeVert, and the Nets would be much better off with him. The only problem is if he wants to win a championship… because they wouldn’t be amongst the favorites even with Jimmy Butler on their roster.
