With the #2 pick in the draft, and Murray State point guard Ja Morant likely to follow, Mike Conley’s tenure with the Grizzlies will likely be coming to an end. After 11 years in Memphis, what’s next for the veteran guard?

In a report by Sean Deveney of Sporting News, Miami is the latest team to surface as a possible landing spot.

League sources told Sporting News this week that one team to watch in the Conley hunt is Miami, which is waiting on Goran Dragic’s decision on his $19 million player option for next year. Heat president Pat Riley has long coveted Conley – Miami was interested in signing Conley before he re-signed with Memphis three years ago – and still wants to bring him to South Florida.

31-year-old Mike Conley is coming off his best statistical season in Memphis, posting a career-high 21 points per game on 43% shooting. Those numbers would look well in Miami, where the Heat have struggled to get offensive and defensive consistency from their stars. For Hassan Whiteside especially, his downward spiral is causing serious concern within NBA circles.

But with the number 13 pick, Whiteside, and Justice Winslow they can begin a fresh start — one that may just push Miami back towards playoff contention.
