On ESPN First Take, Magic Johnson opened up about his experience with the Lakers. Amongst all of the stories that exposed the situation, he also stood by the notion that the team will be successful in the LeBron James era. Despite everything, he still believes the Lakers will win a Championship in the next three years.

“It’s gonna happen. It’s gonna happen,” said Johnson. “Just like me going back to my business and doing what I’m doing. LeBron is gonna win that ‘chip — he’s gonna be in that group recruiting.”

“Lakers gotta decide — it’s gotta be Jeanie (Buss), LeBron and Rob (Pelinka) and probably Frank. That’s it.”

With LeBron James, anything is possible. But the fact remains that this current Lakers roster is nowhere near where it needs to be. James does not fit well with a young, broken roster. They have no depth in the frontcourt, and it remains to be seen whether or not Frank Vogel is the right coach for this team.

But their issues stem much further than that. Jeanie Buss is giving control to too many voices, and the “Game of Thrones” like power struggle is making the front office decisions ineffective.

The Lakers will have to remake their identity (from the top down) if they want to start heading in the right direction. Only then can they hope to fulfill Magic’s prediction.
