After the last piece of their f=world-renowned “Big 3” departed, nobody was expecting the Clippers to compete. And a year after trading Blake Griffin — not only did they compete .– but they won 2 playoff games against the best team in the NBA.
Seemingly, they were able to rebound by turning one of their stars into a variety of other assets.
Here is how they did it, thanks to Reddit user u/bad_luck_charm:
Essentially, they got Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Garrett Temple, JaMychal Green, Landry Shamet, Wilson Chandler, a 2020 first round pick, a 2021 first round pick, a 2023 first round pick, and Ivica Zubac.
While those names might not be the sexiest in the league, they have provided a significant enough contribution to the team so far. Guys like Alexander and Shamet, in particular, have been crucial to the team’s surprising performance this season.
As for Blake Griffin, he made the All-Star team this past year for the first time since 2015. Unfortunately, his run was cut short by yet another season-jeopardizing injury, that cost him two playoff games back in April when the Pistons got swept by the first-seeded Milwaukee Bucks.
But if anything, the fact that the Clippers were able to find such good pieces in return for their biggest star says a lot about how well the guys upstairs are doing. Jerry West, Doc Rivers, and Steve Balmer are really making Los Angeles a respected organization.
