Raptors superfan Drake has taken his fandom to new heights this postseason, interacting with the players and going animated on the sidelines during the games. It has been the subject of much scrutiny, with some saying his behavior is being allowed to go way too far. The NBA issued a warning to the hip-hop star in an attempt to calm him down.

So far, those efforts have been in vain. Not only is Drake continuing his antics, but it’s almost as if he has turned it up.

Surprisingly, one Warriors player has actually come to the defense of Drake, admitting that he has earned a little extra leeway than most.

“It is what it is. He a fan, he talk. It gets more attention because he’s Drake. So many people have complained about it, like ‘You don’t let other fans do that’. Yeah, any other fan isn’t Drake, so he should be able to do that. That’s how the cookie crumbles”

“He’s worked his ass off to be who he is and when you do that you get a longer leash than others. There’s so much talk, ‘the NBA needs to…’, no they don’t. He worked to be who he is, you should get more leash. I don’t mind it. It’s fun for me.”

Drake certainly isn’t just any other fan. He is, arguably, one of the most impactful music artists of the modern generation. As their biggest cultural icon, the Raptors have actually named Drake as their unofficial ambassador.

True, his behavior can be a bit distracting. And true, his clearance is the only one of its kind in the league. But is he really doing that much harm? If the Warriors really want him to sit down, then they will have to do so by beating his team on the court. Until then, they will just have to just deal it.
