In days where Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappe steal all the attention from the fans and media, another Paris Saint-Germain star looks set to take his talents outside France and join a Spanish club this summer in order to replace one of the most talented players in the La Liga.

Edinson Cavani has had marvelous campaigns in France, but now his time at Parc des Prince appears to be nearing its end after Atletico Madrid reportedly submitted a €45 million bid to the Ligue 1 champions.

The Uruguayan striker has reportedly started the negotiations with Los Rojiblancos representatives as they are allegedly prepared to offer him a deal worth €20m-a-season, the same salary as Antoine Griezmann had, the player he’d be replacing at Wanda Metropolitano.

According to ParisTeam, PSG’s sporting director Antero Henrique and manager Thomas Tuchel want to get rid of Cavani seeing his age and the outstanding strikers they want within ranks at this moment. On the other hand, Atletico’s boss Diego Simeone is believed to be a great fan of Cavani, so no wonder why they are so interested in signing the former Napoli striker.

Nevertheless, even if they count with the likes of Neymar and Mbappe, club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is not buying the idea of selling Cavani. Given the huge popularity of Edinson among PSG fans, he knows selling him would upset a big number of them.

Right now Atletico have made Cavani their top priority to replace Griezmann even though his scorings went a little bit down this season where he netted 24 goals in a mere 33 appearances, a weak number having in mind that in the previous two years he managed to score a combined 89 goals in all competitions.

Yet, Atletico seem reluctant to quit on their desire to sign Cavani this summer, as Griezmann departure is imminent, with the Frenchman expected to take his talents to Barcelona in the offseason.
