Giannis will likely be crowned the NBA MVP in a few weeks. It is an honor he has earned, as he leads Milwaukee to the best record in the NBA. But for Giannis, everything is about the postseason.
After beating Detroit and Boston, the Bucks were handed an early exit this postseason by Toronto. Even now, that series loss is still lurking in Giannis’ head.
“Now, every day in my head, I’m seeing Gasol double-team me,” Antetokounmpo said via The Athletic. “You think I’m joking, but I’m not. I’m not seeing anybody else. I don’t care who’s guarding me. Give me a name. Thaddeus Young. All I’m seeing is Kawhi, Gasol coming because I know that. When I get to that situation, it might not be them. It might be (Joel) Embiid. Ben Simmons guarding me, Embiid double- teaming, but that’s what I’m seeing now. That’s what I feel like I have to do better.”
He also admitted that the loss to Toronto only helped him get better…
“And, thank you. Thank you, because Gasol and Kawhi made me a better player. I’m not trying to be sarcastic. I’m being honest. They’re going to push me to be better. You gotta use this year as motivation. You cannot just come here and mope around.”
No doubt, this is not the last we have seen of the Greek Freak. He will be back next year, stronger, angrier, and hungrier than ever. At only 24-years-old, even if he loses again, he has got plenty of time to figure things out.
In the meantime, he should continue to learn and grow from his failures.
