Manchester United’s summer transfer window is expected to a very entertaining one. The Red Devils are hopeful they can turn things around this offseason and come back to the top spots in England and overseas. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side is expected to make some splash in the next weeks, but they still have more things to be worried about besides their potential signings.
Man. Utd. are set to let several players go and one of their biggest stars is expected to make his way out of Old Trafford this summer after a very inconsistent season. Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea has been linked with a move out of Manchester this season as the team is already looking for his replacement.
However, now the team is facing having to pay De Gea £30 million this summer to prevent the Spaniard from running his contract down. Nobody is 100% sure of the future of David, but there is a risk that he might leave the club for nothing next year. If De Gea chooses to stay with United one more season, he will have the chance to pick his next team and would leave the team without one of his most valuable players and without receiving any money in exchange.
According to The Sun, De Gea could use this to take a hugely lucrative advantage. He knows he can leave in one year for free and negotiate on his own terms, therefore he looks ready to finish his deal with the club and avoid an exit this summer.
United are currently demanding £75 million for De Gea, a number that has decreased interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus on the Spaniard, and the Red Devils’ asking fee could fall to around £60m if the current one isn’t met by any side interested in the goalie.
Ever since he left Atletico Madrid to join the then Sir Alex Ferguson’s side back in 2011, the Spanish international has been one of the most reliable agents in United’s ranks, even earning the club’s player of the year award on four occasions since his arrival; nevertheless, this season his level went down as David starred some awful moments while defending United’s net.
Man. Utd. have been linked with Barcelona’s Jasper Cillessen and Atletico’s Jan Oblak in recent days, so a move to a different team looks like a very probable option for de Gea.
