After several years of struggles in Europe with not a single Champions League title, French side Paris Saint-Germain will try to turn things around and win their most desired trophy once and for all. Thomas Tuchel team is set to spend big money, just like they’ve done in the past, in order to assemble the best possible team that can take a European title to France.

The Parisians have made the signing of a new central defender this summer a priority and they are aiming to land two of the best players in that position at this very moment. PSG have identified Matthijs de Ligt and Kalidou Koulibaly as two potential candidates, two moves that won’t be easy or cheap, but that last part is not a problem for the French multiple-champions.

De Ligt is currently one of the most coveted players in European football following a great season with Dutch side Ajax, where he got to win a domestic double and made it to the Champions League semi-finals, where Tottenham eliminated them in a dramatic series. Koulibaly has also been outstanding this season, leading Napoli to finish as Serie A runners-up while being named as the best defender in the league.

According to tf1, PSG have been following these two players throughout the season and seeing their impressive performances with their respective sides, the team is already making plans to submit bids for them after the club’s Sporting director Antero Henrique recently visited Doha to meet with his superiors, including President Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

PSG have already started the talks with De Ligt, who is also followed by European giants Barcelona and Manchester United. The Dutch international hasn’t made a final decision about his future and that maintains the French side hopeful that they can secure a deal with de Ligt, which could exceed €70 million.

For Koulibaly, things might be a little harder given the fact that Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has insisted that he is not willing to let Kalidou go for anything less than €100 million. We still have to wait to see how this is going to end, as the Senegalese defender still has four years left on his current deal and the Parthenopeans don’t seem interested in lowering down his asking price.
