LaVar Ball is certainly one of a kind and his presence around the Los Angeles Lakers ever since his son, Lonzo was drafted there, has been felt by everyone. However, Lonzo Ball currently has no safety within the franchise as he potentially could be traded away to the New Orleans Pelicans in a deal to bring Anthony Davis to the west. It also isn’t unlikely for the franchise to draft a new star point guard in this upcoming draft which again puts LaVar’s son at great risk.

LaVar Ball must know this as he is now campaigning for the Lakers to keep Lonzo on their roster. On the latest episode of Undisputed, LaVar argued that LeBron James is coming to the end of his career and needs someone like his son on the list to make the most of his remaining time in the league.

It’s debatable if LeBron only has a couple of great seasons left in him, the four-time MVP has been at the top of his game for a long time now, but even champions drop off eventually. Although the season was a disaster for the Lakers, James still managed to put up some impressive statistics and was the most important player for the team by far.

In LaVar Ball’s opinion, he wants the Lakers to emphasizing youth which means keeping Lonzo around is an absolute must for the franchise. Building around players like Lonzo is a possible option for the future if LeBron really is coming to the end of his career.

However, by giving in and focusing on their youth, they may be sacrificing any chance for a championship during LeBron’s time in Los Angeles. The current team are so far off a chance at a championship that they need to trade for a big-name star to play alongside LeBron for the Lakers to return to postseason action. It’s easier said than done with many big named players turning down the franchise but the Lakers may be able to bring over someone like Kyrie Irving who is very much considering the option.

Lonzo Ball may become a very talented player in the future but the franchise has arguably the greatest player in the history of the game on their side right now and it would be foolish to waste his talent in order to developing their youth.

It’s safe to say that LaVar’s media campaign won’t be what keeps Lonzo Ball as a Laker if that’s how it all turns out.
