At first glance, the Allen Crabbe trade is not particularly spectacular. Brooklyn swapped Crabbe and the number 17 pick for Taurean Prince and a 2021 second-rounder.

And although Prince is a decent role-player, the trade is really significant because it opens up room for two max-contract slots in free agency this summer.

Who might they be making room for? Kyrie Irving, who is apparently “very serious” about signing with Brooklyn this summer.

If the Nets choose to re-sign D’Angelo Russell, they will only have room for Irving. But a Russ/Kyrie backcourt is nothing to complain about.

They could have even bigger aspirations though. If they let Russell walk, they can sign Kyrie and an additional top free agent including Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, or Klay Thompson. Yes, in case you had any doubt, the Nets are shooting for the stars this summer.

And for the first time in a long time, they have a good chance to grab one — or two.
