The 2019 NBA Finals have been one for the ages so far. It has been a series of stars, a series of firsts, and a series of hard-fought battles. It has also been a series of injury. The Raptors deserve a lot of credit for their play against the Warriors, but things could change in a flash with the return of Kevin Durant.

Stephen A. Smith said so in a courtside reaction to Game 4:

Durant might hold the Warriors’ only chance at returning from the 3-1 hole and capturing the title. Without him, it is hard to say they win Game 5 in Toronto.

So just how close is he to a return? According to Brian Windhorst, his body just is not ready.

“Here’s what I do know. Durant just isn’t ready. His body isn’t ready. The trainers don’t believe it. He doesn’t believe it. He tried to do some stuff in practice yesterday. It didn’t work. There was frustration all around and from Kevin about it. Steve Kerr is frustrated about it too.”

The original diagnosis is a calf strain, but the injury seems more serious than we were led on to believe. Even if Durant returns, what version of him will show up to play? How long will it continue to linger? There are a lot of questions regarding his status for the Finals and even beyond.

But if he does not return, it could mean the end of the Golden STate dynasty forever.
