It’s been an incredible week so far for every basketball loving fan in Toronto as the Raptors take a commanding 3-1 lead over the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. The franchise needs to win just one more game from the final three remaining games to secure their first ever NBA Championship.

The man who has sparked this incredible post-season run is Kawhi Leonard who is playing in just his first season with the Raptors. Kawhi has been well known to be quite unbothered off the court and he has shown this again when asked in a press conference about what this would mean for Toronto and Canada as a whole for the Raptors to win the championship.

“I’m really not sure,” he responded when prompted. “I guess you really have to ask somebody on the street or one of our fans. I’m pretty sure it’s a long time waiting, they’re going to be excited. They’re already excited, just us being here for the first time. They were going crazy after the Eastern Conference Finals. I don’t know. There’s no tellin’. You gotta ask, like I said, a fan or somebody that’s been livin’ in Canada for a while. I know they’re going to be super excited. I don’t know. We’ll see.”

For Kawhi, his response is understandable with the champion star playing his entire career in San Antonio before being traded to the Raptors. It’s been a truly remarkable story for Leonard as it was clear from the beginning that Toronto was not his preferred team of choice to be traded to. At times, it looked almost certain that he would be out of the city as soon as he had the chance.

However, it all may end in a fairy-tale like story if Kawhi can lead the Raptors to just one more win and secure the NBA title. With a 3-1 lead, it looks like it’s almost a certainty that the trophy will be heading north of the U.S border for the first time ever.

The Raptors will have the chance to make history in their Game 5 clash against the Golden State Warriors on Monday.
