Father time has taken its toll on 9x All-Star Chris Paul, and he has lost a step as a result. When he signed his 4-year, $159 million contract last July, it was supposed to mark the final chapter of his exceptional career.
Instead, the 34-year-old point guard is demanding out, as his relationship with fellow All-Star guard James Harden has reached a breaking point, per Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports:
The delicate relationship between Houston Rockets stars James Harden and Chris Paul has been termed “unsalvageable” and the star players want a divorce.
“There’s no respect at all, on either side,” a source told Yahoo Sports. “They need to get away from one another. Chris doesn’t respect James’ standing in the league, and James doesn’t respect the work Chris has put in to this point.”
It should be noted that Paul himself disputed the claim in a comment on Instagram…
Nonetheless, the tension between Paul and Harden is obvious. Their lack of performance on the court together, followed by numerous reports of locker room altercations between the stars (including this scene during one timeout huddle) makes it all too clear that something is not working out.
The Rockets are now faced with the impossible challenge of trying to trade him… but that task may be too much of a long-shot for even Daryl Morey to complete.
