The New Orleans Pelicans may have lost Anthony Davis but the future of the franchise is still looking very bright as they hold the number one pick of the draft along with the fourth pick that they will receive from the Lakers as part of the Davis trade. The Pelicans will likely select Zion Williamson with the first pick and then possibly use the fourth pick to lure in an already experienced and talented player.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Pelicans may be targeting Washington Wizards’ All-Star Bradley Beal with the fourth pick of the draft.
‘Griffin has been open to moving the No. 4 overall pick, and one player league executives believe the Pelicans are monitoring in a potential trade is Washington Wizards All-Star Bradley Beal, sources said. But Wizards interim president Tommy Sheppard is running the Washington front office as of now, and the franchise has been adamant for months that it hopes to build around Beal.’
Beal doesn’t become a free agent until 2021 but the Wizards are struggling with cap space and having young talent in the roster, this gives the Pelicans an opportunity to make this deal happen. The Washington All-Star hasn’t requested a trade as of yet but there’s a strong belief that he would like to move on as soon as possible as it’s clear the Wizards are in no way a threat in the Eastern Conference.
A new home at the Pelicans sounds quite intriguing with the franchise looking to base their side around Zion Williamson, Jrue Holiday, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball. The franchise has plenty of future draft assets to come which puts them in the perfect position for the future.
