Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City will try to reinforce some key areas this summer transfer window and the Citizens look ready to spend significant money both in England and overseas. The top priority for the club this offseason will be to strengthen the center of the team, both in defense and midfield and, as the days go by, their list includes more candidates.
In the past, they were linked with the likes of Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax and Leicester’s Harry Maguire before reports started to suggest that the Sky Blue are turning their heads to Italy, where one of the most interesting defenders in the continent plays at this moment.
Manchester City are ready to fight off Manchester United in the race to sign Senegalese international Kalidou Koulibaly, with the current Premier League champions ready to make a £85 million bid for the center-back. Per Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Senegal international is seen as the best replacement for Vincent Kompany at City and Pep Guardiola is eager to land him.
Kalidou is currently one of the best defenders in the world and it’s not a surprise that the list of teams interested in his services includes the two Manchester giants, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain among others. However, he still has four years left on his current contract, so whoever that tries to get him will have to place a huge bid on the table to persuade Napoli and his president to let the player go.
Albeit the Parthenoppeans have no desire to sell the 27-year-old, they are attempting to make their own signings this summer and cash in on Koulibaly would help them a lot to put together the team they want to assemble ahead of next season. That’s why they would let him go if a proper offer knocks the door, but the question now is which team is going to make it. He has a £133 million release clause that becomes active from the summer of 2020 so the best moment to sign him is now.
