Mats Hummels has made his desired comeback to Borussia Dortmund after the team agreed on terms with Bayern Munich. The center-back returns to the team where he played eight years between 2008 and 2016 before making his way to Munich.

Hummels spent three seasons with the current Bundesliga champions, making 188 appearances in all competitions and winning the domestic league title each season he was part of the team.

Now he has come back to his former club expecting to enhance their level and make them a real threat to Bayern after their last season’s struggles. Hummels has reportedly agreed to a three-year deal with BVB. Neither Bayern or Borussia have confirmed the agreed fee, but it’s believed Dortmund will pay an initial €25 million, up to €33m in add ons.

Bayern confirmed on their website: “Mats Hummels is facing a return to Borussia Dortmund.”

“On Wednesday FC Bayern and BVB reached a fundamental agreement on a change of the central defender, who played for Dortmund from 2008 to 2016.

“Both parties have agreed to keep the transfer modalities confidential. To complete the transfer, Hummels now has to complete the medical check in Dortmund.”

This move is certainly one of the best in German football this season; after the collapse the Black and Yellow suffered last season, they are keen to steal the Bundesliga trophy from the hands of Bayern and Hummels is a great addition to carry out the job. The German defender is the leader this team needs after their struggles last campaign.

Next season looks nothing but promising for Lucien Favre’s side. Added to Hummels, they already secured the signatures of Julian Brand, Thorgan Hazard, and Nico Shulz. The time is now for the once Champions League finalists; they have big hopes ahead of next season and big reasons to have them.
