It looks like “The New Cristiano Ronaldo” is eager to follow his idols’ footsteps, as he’s poised to complete a move from his hometown side Benfica to the Spanish La Liga.

However, the forward won’t be joining Real Madrid like Ronaldo once did, but his city rivals Atletico Madrid, who have been extremely aggressive in their pursuit for his services.

As a matter of fact, Diego Simeone has fallen so in love with Felix’s talents, that the club even confirmed the Colchoneros submitted a huge €126 million (£113m/$143m) for their wonderkid.

Felix has been drawing a lot of interest among European giants since the start of the season and even though Simeone constantly talks about how they’re a small club that’s always behind Barcelona and Madrid when it comes to spending, it looks like they’re now in the driver’s seat to land the Portuguese.

Nonetheless, even though Atletico have found quite a success by offloading huge sums of money for players, Simeone has always preferred to invest in younger talents rather than established players.

“Historically, Atletico buy young players to develop them here. Like what happened with [Jan] Oblak, [Jose] Gimenez, Lucas Hernandez when they came through from youth teams – or Griezmann. We want a talented guy who can absorb our ideas. Our technical staff is already working on some situations to help to develop players. (…) If Joao Felix and others come with different characteristics than we had before, then we will have to play differently,” Simeone told Fox Sports Argentina.

However, Simeone’s well aware that money and new faces aren’t everything in such a difficult tournament as La Liga, especially if Antoine Griezmann winds up leaving the club as expected.

“In training, we will see where we are going … It is clear that this year’s challenge is one of the most complexes since I arrived at the club,” he concluded.
