From that we have been told, the meetings are done. Kawhi Leonard has sat down with the Lakers, Clippers, and Raptors, and although the world will continue guessing, there is only one thing to do at this point: wait.
As Kawhi keeps the basketball world holding their breath, there is no doubt that his impact will be huge once he finally does make his decision in the coming days. But who really has the upper hand?
Interestingly enough, in a report by The New York Times’ Marc Stein, the Lakers believe they are the team to beat in the Kawhi Leonard sweepstakes.
What we know:
1. The Lakers, as we’ve been saying for more than a week now, believe they are firmly in the lead largely through the recruiting efforts and assurances made on separate fronts from Magic Johnson and LeBron James …

For some reason, belief about Kawhi’s next location has shifted in recent weeks. At first, it was a race between the Clippers and Raptors — teams where he could shine as the singular star. The Lakers became “favorites” only recently, as recruiting efforts from LeBron, Magic, and Rob Pelinka have taken their effect on the 3x All-Star.
Kawhi is due for a 4-year max deal this offseason after having a career year with the Raptors. At 28, he is perhaps one of the most valuable players to hit the free agency market in years. His decision is expected by the end of the week.
