Even though they were aiming to land Jimmy Butler during this offseason, the Houston Rockets find themselves again in the hunt for some players who can add depth and bring more quality to the squad.
According to a report from the Houston Chronicles, Houston is looking to acquire wing Andre Iguodala in a trade with the Grizzlies and sign free agent center JaVale McGee. Iggy spent the last six years of his careers with the Warriors, where he went to play in five consecutive NBA Finals, winning three titles in the process and taking home one Finals MVP.
However, everything comes to an end and Iggy’s tenure at the Bay wasn’t the exception. Iguodala was reportedly sent to Memphis, along with a protected first-round pick, last weekend as the Warriors had to clear cap space to acquire point guard D’Angelo Russell in a sign-and-trade with the Brooklyn Nets.
Albeit his offensive numbers weren’t the best last season, averaging 5.7 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 33.3% from 3-point range, the swingman still was a solid defender for his squad.
If the Grizzlies buy out Iguodala, that would make things harder for Houston due to their salary cap situation, according to the report. The Lakers are also interested in getting Andre’s signature if he becomes a free agent.
As for McGee, he met with the organization earlier this week so we have to wait to know how his situation will be handled by the Rockets. He averaged 12.0 points and 7.5 rebounds with the Lakers in 2018/19.
The Rockets expected to sign Jimmy Butler at the beginning of the free agency, but things fell apart for them and now the forward is part of the Miami Heat while the Rockets are looking for a different kind of players.
