Perhaps Barcelona may have a chance to sign Ajax wonderkid Matthijs de Ligt after all since Juventus negotiations have apparently stalled. De Ligt was linked with a move to Camp Nou for several months before Juventus took the lead for the youngster’s signature, but now it looks like things are the same as they were at the beginning of the summer transfer window.
De Ligt was also followed by clubs like Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, but he picked the Old Lady as his new destination, which made people think that agreeing to a transfer fee with Ajax was just a formality. However, Juventus apparently submitted a low first bid that Ajax won’t accept.
Sky Italia reported earlier this week that Juventus offered €65 million, only €55 million of which was to be paid upfront, with the additional €10m in extra bonuses.
Marca suggest the offer is €65 million, plus €10 million, but reinforces that it hasn’t been accepted by Ajax. The Spanish publication also states that Barcelona placed a €75 million offer accepted by Ajax, leaving the door open to a switch to Camp Nou after all.
Marca note that both Barca and Juve have each completed one half of a transfer. Everything comes down now to Barcelona offering improved personal terms to De Ligt, or the Italian champions increasing their offer to Ajax to get a deal finally completed for the star center-back.
