Anthony Davis is yet to make his official debut with the Los Angeles Lakers and he is already making headlines about what he’s planning to do with his career next year, as contrary to what many would believe, the Brow has curious plans when the 2020 NBA free agency arrives.
According to Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report, the former New Orleans Pelicans star will test the waters of free agency next summer, and right now the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers as his top two teams for next year’s free market.
AD will become a UFA in 2020, finishing with the Lakers the deal he priorly signed with the Pelicans, after the Purple and Gold agreed to a trade with New Orleans to acquire Davis in June. Everything seems to indicate that Davis will be signing a long-term extension with Los Angeles next year, but it looks like the superstar is going to take some time to think before confirming his decision.
“The ’20 class is not nearly as star-studded as this summer, but there is a handful of intriguing names. The unrestricted list is led by Davis, who league sources say has vowed to explore free agency with the Knicks and the Lakers as his top two teams,” Bucher said.
It will be a huge surprise if Davis doesn’t re-sign with the Lakers next season. LeBron James signed a four-year deal with Los Angeles last offseason, in which he has a player option for the 2021-22 season that will likely be picked up unless something changes in LA. Good thing for the franchise is that LeBron and Davis have the same agent, so retaining the two stars with them would be relatively easy.
Now the Californians are expected to see if they can assemble their powerful Big 3 composed by AD, LeBron, and Kawhi Leonard, but the latter has still to make a final decision about his future team.
