Following a terrific 2018/19 for Ajax, it’s not a secret that several teams across Europe are trying to land some of their players this summer. The most famous case is Matthijs de Ligt and all the attention he’s drawn from numerous major clubs around the continent, but besides the talented center-back, they have other assets that are coveted this offseason.

One of those is the talented Brazilian David Neres, one of the best offensive players of the team last season, who now appears to be living his last moments with the Lancers. The 22-year-old winger has been linked with Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Everton during the last couple of months, but he doesn’t look so sure to be abandoning Ajax at this moment.

After Brazil’s victory over Peru in the 2019 Copa America final by 3-1, Neres made clear where he wants to play next season:

“I’m having a beer because I have something to celebrate. I have to be back at Ajax on July 28. My future is with Ajax,” he told Algemeen Dagblad.

Although he played the first two games of the competition as a starter, he lost his spot in the starting XI.

“It was hard to lose my spot. I did my best, but it was not enough,” he admitted.

“In the end, I’m a part of the team and it’s most important that we win. Therefore I’m still satisfied. It’s great to win this prize with the national team. It’s a dream for me and the other players.

“Now it’s time to celebrate. We had a nice party in the dressing room. We danced and after that it was time to see my family.

“It was a good experience for me to be here and play with experienced players. I feel older myself and more experienced. That’s good for my development.”

He has made sure to be one of the most important players for the Dutch giants, racking up 25 goals in 69 appearances, while helping the club to have historical performances both in the Netherlands and abroad.

Although he is keen to start the pre-season with his current side, it won’t be too long before we see Neres playing with a different club, and more seeing the quality of the teams that have followed him in recent times.
