Is the Russell Westbrook era coming to an end in Oklahoma City? As mid-July approaches, that certainly seems like the case. Paul George quit on Russ and the franchise, leaving the team in a state of disarray. In a huge haul of picks, the team traded him away to the Clippers — leaving Westbrook’s future with the franchise uncertain.
Or maybe it has never been so certain…
In an update on the situation from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, both sides are ready to move on.
This is based upon relationships on all sides — Russell Westbrook, agent Thad Foucher and GM Sam Presti — and collaborating together and examining alternative solutions. Trade timing is challenging this late in the summer due to salaries frozen across NBA from free-agent deals. https://t.co/L0ABYFwAfH

The end was in sight the moment PG was traded. After apparent unhappiness with the situation from both players, maybe their partnership was never going to last in Oklahoma. But without him, the team has almost no chance to compete in the West. As they accumulate draft picks and develop young players, Russ’ age and playstyle just do not fit with the team.
The Heat, Pistons, and Rockets are expected to make an offer for the 8x All-Star.
