This season AC Milan might be facing the consequences of their overspending in recent years, but the Rossoneri don’t look like they are going to change the way they do business right now. In fact, they keep aiming high and wanting to land players who won’t go at a cheap price to San Siro.
The latest addition to that list is Real Madrid star Luka Modric, who was rumored to be making his way to Milan last season but to play with Internazionale. Now, the talented midfielder could land in the capital of fashion to play under Marco Giampaolo.
Reports suggest that the Italian giants have made contact with Real Madrid to check the availability of the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, despite reports from Spain suggesting the midfielder has no intention of leaving Zinedine Zidane’s side.
Madrid were reported to be set to part ways with several players this summer following the huge investment they made on transfers and Modric was one of those assets expected to make his way out of the club.
Nevertheless, Marca state that Modric doesn’t plan to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. Moreover, they add that Zidane sees the 33-year-old as a key member of his squad.
In order to let the Croatian go, some things would have to happen first, with Sky Sports (via Sport) going further and saying that Modric’s agent went to Italy to speak to the Serie A side, but they don’t assure any possible deal is set to be completed.
First off, Zidane’s unwillingness to lose the midfielder is the biggest obstacle; plus, Milan would have to somehow pay a salary of around €12 million per year, which, seeing their ongoing issues with FFP, doesn’t seem plausible for them.
Los Blancos have still players they need to sell as soon as possible, including Dani Ceballos, Gareth Bale, Isco and more. The only certain thing now is that the 13-time Champions League winners are not willing to part with Luka Modric.
