James Rodriguez’s situation has been one of the most entertaining during this summer transfer window and it appears to be reaching its end, even though we still don’t know where the Colombian star is going to play next year.

With Napoli and Atletico Madrid reportedly keen to secure a deal for the playmaker, it doesn’t look like his future will be in another team other than these two.

Now, to add more drama on this situation, Napoli’s boss Carlo Ancelotti has claimed his team and Real Madrid are still negotiating over a potential move of the Colombian.

Asked about Napoli’s pursuit of James, Ancelotti told TV Luna, as quoted by Goal: “I’m not aware of a deal with Atletico.

“We’re still talking for James, a player that I really like. I’m very attached to James, I rate him very highly and he can certainly improve our team.

“He doesn’t need to re-announce himself, he’s a great player. But he’s not the only player we’re openly negotiating for. We’re assessing many players.”

Also, the Italian boss discussed Napoli’s pursuit of Fenerbahce and Macedonia midfielder Eljif Elmas. Following the departure of Amadou Diawara to Roma and Marko Rog set to leave for Cagliari, the Parthenoppeans have turned their heads to the 19-year-old player.

“We’re very close and I hope a deal closes quickly,” Ancelotti added. “He’s a very interesting player and we’re defining the final details. I hope he arrives before we leave Dimaro.

“We were looking for a player skilled at playing between the lines, and Elmas has a lot of quality.

“The squad is already very complete. We have to take a little step at a time. We’re very close to the top.

“We’ll be happy as of August 31. Napoli are working and nothing is impossible, but then there are the wants of the players or problems with the clubs or agents.”

Albeit they’re not the richest team in Italy, Napoli are planning to make some good moves this summer. Following the arrival of Kostas Manolas from Roma, the Blues are ready to secure deals for James and Elmas, two players who will improve the team’s level as soon as they land at the San Paolo.

Besides, Napoli have been linked with Inter outcast Mauro Icardi. This transfer window can be one to remember if they pull off all these moves.
