The Mauro Icardi saga continues and it looks like the Argentine striker is living his last days with Internazionale. A variety of reports suggested different things in recent days. While some indicated he was going to Manchester United, others said Juventus or Napoli were his next destination.

Moreover, the only thing that all these rumors had in common was the way Inter were going to part ways with him: with a swap deal.

Now it appears like he’s indeed leaving the club via swap deal, but he won’t go to any of the mentioned teams above. Even though he would go to a Serie A team, Icardi would be heading to the capital of Italy, instead of Turin or Naples.

That is right. Inter have reopened negotiations with Roma around a potential swap deal for Mauro Icardi, which would see the Argentine going to Rome in exchange for Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko.

Antonio Conte has made it clear that he doesn’t plan to use Icardi next season, and the club has gotten to work to find a solution. Initially, Juventus were an option to take Icardi, but now the Old Lady is trying to land Romelu Lukaku, which have changed things significantly.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Inter are looking to explore all their options, and one of the favorites is a swap deal involving Icardi and Dzeko. However, given that Mauro is valued far higher than his counterpart, there would certainly be some additional parts to the offer. Roma expressed their interest in the former Sampdoria striker earlier in the summer, but now they would have to include more players or offer a player-plus-cash deal to persuade the Nerazzurri to let Icardi go.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli would be another option to purchase Icardi, after missing out on the chance to land both James Rodriguez and Nicolas Pepe. The club’s president Aurelio de Laurentiis is thought to be frustrated and keen to land a marquee signing to put pressure on Juventus at the top of the Serie A scoreboard.

Inter have two good options here; they have the chance to land Dzeko while getting rid of Icardi. On the other hand, Napoli would disburse the €80 million Inter are reportedly asking for the player, which could help them get the money to facilitate Romelu Lukaku’s arrival to the Giuseppe Meazza.

It’s up to them what they’re going to do, but Icardi could serve them very well after all.
